Winter mornings
The point of a winter cover is measured in minutes on a dark morning. Ice forms on the cover instead of the windscreen, and the whole thing lifts off in one movement — provided the cover was designed to be removed with cold hands and does not freeze to the paint.
A thermal layer over the glass area slows the radiative cooling that makes a windscreen frost before the rest of the car. Combined with a snow-shedding outer face, most mornings the cover lifts away with the frost still attached to it.
Grab handles at the A-pillars matter more than any specification on a winter cover. Pull from the front, roll the cover back over itself so the wet face folds inward, and shake the loose snow off before it goes in the boot.
Road salt is abrasive and corrosive. Wash a winter cover more often than a summer one, use a cover wash rather than detergent, and reproof it once the water stops beading.
