Measure Your Car For A Cover

Five minutes with a tape measure removes all the guesswork. You need three numbers: length, width and height, each taken the way described below.

  1. Step 1

    Park on level ground

    Put the car on a flat, level surface with the wheels straight and any folding mirrors and aerials in their normal position.

  2. Step 2

    Measure length point to point

    Hold a straight edge vertically at the furthest forward point and again at the furthest rearward point, including a fixed tow bar, and measure along the ground between them. Do not run the tape over the bodywork.

  3. Step 3

    Measure width excluding mirrors

    Measure across the widest part of the body, usually the rear arches, ignoring the door mirrors. Mirror pockets are cut separately into every pattern.

  4. Step 4

    Measure height to the highest fixed point

    Measure from the ground to the roof, or to roof bars if they stay on the car permanently.

  5. Step 5

    Match to a pattern

    Compare your three figures against the size guide. The correct pattern is the smallest one whose maximum length, width and height all exceed your measurements.
