Rain and standing water
Waterproof is easy on its own — a plastic sheet is waterproof. The hard part is keeping rain out while letting water vapour from a warm bonnet and damp ground escape, so the cover does not become a greenhouse with your paint inside it.
Water-resistant fabric sheds a shower. Waterproof fabric survives hours of driven rain and the run-off that pools along the roof gutter and sill. The difference shows in three places: the coating on the outer face, the hydrostatic rating of the membrane, and whether the seams are taped or merely stitched.
Fully sealed non-breathable covers cause more damage than they prevent. Ground moisture rises, the car cools overnight, and water condenses on the underside of the fabric with nowhere to go. Over a winter that sits against paint and trim. Every outdoor cover we make is breathable for exactly this reason.
Fit the cover to a cool car, front to back, seating the mirror pockets first. If you have to store it wet, hang it before it goes back in the bag — a wet cover packed tight will mildew and lose its water repellency far faster than one that dried on a rail.
